Description

The Banff International Research Station will host the "Large N Matrix Models and Emergent Geometry" workshop in Banff from May 24 to May 29, 2026.

The goal of this workshop is to bring together experts from mathematics, quantum field theory, string theory and cosmology to make progress on an ambitious research program to obtain emergent space-time and early universe cosmology from a well defined quantum mechanical matrix model. The aim of the research program is nothing less than to develop a unified quantum theory of space, time and matter based on a well-defined mathematical foundation.

The Banff International Research Station for Mathematical Innovation and Discovery (BIRS) is a collaborative Canada-US-Mexico venture that provides an environment for creative interaction as well as the exchange of ideas, knowledge, and methods within the Mathematical Sciences, with related disciplines and with industry. The research station is located at The Banff Centre in Alberta and is supported by Canada's Natural Science and Engineering Research Council (NSERC), the U.S. National Science Foundation (NSF) and Alberta's Technology and Innovation.
